Liberty Diner Honored Today for 25 Years of Hospitality & Community Service by Sullivan County Legislature, Town and Village of Liberty Officials and Greater Liberty Chamber of Commerce

LIBERTY, NY January 13, 2015 – The Liberty Diner and the Tsicalos family that founded, own and operate it, were honored this afternoon by the Sullivan County legislature, both the town and Village of Liberty and the Liberty Chamber of Commerce for their quarter century of hospitality and community service.

Sullivan County Legislator Cora Edwards commenced the presentations with an official “Letter of Appreciation” on behalf of the entire County legislative body to Liberty Diner owners Nick Tsicalos, wife Helen and children Irene and George.  The family was lauded for  “a tradition of warmly welcoming friends, neighbors and visitors to our county,” noting that they “have embodied our community’s values and embraced our county’s families.”

Town of Liberty Councilman Brian McPhillips then presented a proclamation from Supervisor Charlie Barbuti and the Liberty town council declaring January 13, 2015 to be “Liberty Diner Day”.   Though in Albany at the time of the ceremony, Aileen Gunther was represented by Legislative Aide Minnette Kramer, who read a letter of congratulations from the Assemblywoman.  Speaking on behalf of the Village of Liberty Police Department, Chief Scott Kinne thanked the Tsicalos family for their ever-present support of and hospitality to, the uniform officers in his command. The Chief’s remarks were followed by gracious and laudatory comments by Village Mayor Daniel Ratner. The ceremonies concluded with a presentation from Liberty Chamber Board Member Constance Lawrence and a re-staging of the ribbon cutting that first took place on this date in 1990.

A true, three-generation Tsicalos-family affair, the Liberty Diner opened its doors at 30 Sullivan Avenue in Liberty on January 13, 1990, 25 years ago to the day of this presentation. As they have every day since, family members ensure patrons are welcomed with the same engaging warmth and hospitality that has been the hallmark of Liberty Diner since that first Saturday morning.

“We are grateful for the love and support our friends and neighbors have given us over all these years and are humbled by the recognition accorded us today” said owner Nick Tsicalos.  He added that realizing the dream he shared with his father and co-founder George Sr. was particularly inspiring at this important milestone.

“My father’s imprint is indelible and his input remains invaluable.”

The 25th Anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the month of January with in-restaurant promotions and trivia contests and giveaways on the Liberty Diner Facebook page (Official Liberty Diner & Restaurant). The Liberty Diner is open from 6:00 AM to Midnight seven days a week and is located at 30 Sullivan Avenue (just off Exit 100 on Route 17).  The Liberty Diner serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, offers daily specials, an all you can eat soup and salad bar during the dinner hours, and features world-class baking.  On and off-site catering is also available.  Telephone 845-292-8973.
